Body and Mind Therapies
At The Farm in Stouffville, we focus our treatment program on utilizing many types of body and mind therapies to aid patients in their personal healing and growth process throughout the addiction treatment process. These therapies are based on evidence and experience of what works. Some of these therapies used at The Farm Rehab include:
- Addiction Therapy & Talk Therapy
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Mindfulness
- Solution Focused Therapy
- Motivational Interviewing
- Psychoeducational Groups
- Art Therapy

Psycho-educational Groups
Psycho-educational groups are designed to educate patients about substance abuse, related behaviours and consequences. Psycho-educational groups present structured, group specific content to provide information designed to have a direct application to patients’ lives. These groups help instil self-awareness, suggest options for growth and change, identify community resources, develop an understanding of the process of recovery and promote accountability.

Cognitive Behavioural therapy
“Change the way you think, changes the way you feel, changes the way you act”
Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based therapy that helps showcase the relationship between thoughts, feelings, beliefs and the behaviours that follow. CBT helps patients identify and replace negative thoughts and behaviours by utilizing tools, techniques and a new insight to change the negative thoughts and feelings. The techniques taught in CBT are used to treat psychological and behavioural issues in co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, PTSD as well as other mental health conditions.

Meditation
Our patients start each day with meditation, this daily practice teaches our patients to face and embrace the unpleasant, stressful or painful aspects of daily life. By developing an awareness, it allows one to disentangle from habitual thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, as well as the ability to connect with oneself in a deeper manner. With consistent practice it promotes the development of acceptance, patience, compassion and non-reactivity of the mind.

Mindfulness
The main focus of mindfulness is “the here and now.” The focus is on making the best out of the present day you are living, rather than to dwell on the past or worry about what could happen in the future with an attitude of willingness, non-judgement and openness. Patients are asked to bring attention to their thoughts, feelings and reactions as they occur moment to moment. Utilizing mindfulness to bring awareness and intention to your actions in order to also understand the connection of the mind, body, emotions and spirit.

Recreation services
Our holistic approach to addiction treatment includes maintaining a healthy body. Recreational services are an important part of a healthy lifestyle that encourages not only physical health but mental health as well. Fitness group programming led by our kinesiologist is designed to restore more than just your body but focuses on the mind-body connection with many holistic benefits. Some of the benefits of exercise in recovery include; improved sleep, increased energy and stress reduction.
